You just cannot believe your ears. The cabbie has asked you for your credit card to settle the transportation charges for carrying you from the airport to the hotel. Well a few moments back you could not believe your eyes too when the stewardess in the plane accepted a credit card to pay the costs of a bottle of wine that the person seated next to you had purchased. Is this a scene out of a science fiction movie or is it true? The day is not far of when these scenes will be commonplace.
The wireless credit card terminals have finally arrived and they are going to change the way people conduct business. As it is the credit card had changed the way people conduct businesses, when it made its appearance quite some time back.
The entrance of the wireless credit card terminals will make the presence of the plastic card felt even more. Some people might be worried at the thought that whether this is the end of traditional money and whether all businesses will be conducted just via credit cards.
Those people can breathe in relief because it does not seem that this thing is going to happen, at least not for many years down the future. Even though the standard credit card has been around for quite a number of years, has it been able to end the traditional way people conduct financial transactions via check? It is going to be the same case with the wireless credit card terminals too. It might take many years for the present system of transaction is business to be eliminated. Systems are built to be broken.
While the ancients used to trade with gold and copper coins, it took centuries before the cash, as we know it now, was able to replace it. These things take centuries to remove old habits and it will be the same with checks and cash. There are certain things that have outlived their normal life span and these things will get eliminated sooner or later. Technology eliminates the useless systems of business, but the time tested useful systems can never be put down. What if there was a power outage for a few hours?
If one were to depend just on credit cards, they would be doomed. It is easy to usher in a new technology, but the new technology has to prove itself to be foolproof, before it can push out the older one. There is no doubt that the wireless credit card terminals will make an impact on the way certain businesses are conducted, but they will not be able to change the traditional methods.
It is another story that you will not have to reveal the thousand dollar bills you have in your wallet when you present your credit card to the cabbie to square off the transportation charges.
